Why Taylor Swift claims 49ers QB Purdy put her ‘through a lot’ originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Brock Purdy and Taylor Swift have apparently settled their differences.
While visiting patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on Friday, a young fan asked if her song “Paper Rings” was about the 49ers quarterback — and the singer-songwriter gave an interesting answer.
“I have nothing against Brock Purdy,” Swift said. “Last February he put a lot on me. I was very stressed, but everything worked out well in the end.”
Last February, Purdy and the 49ers narrowly lost in Super Bowl LVIII to Swift’s friend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs in one of the most exciting Super Bowls in NFL history.
Thanks to quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ magical performance, the Chiefs erased a late deficit, tied the game and went into overtime. Then, in overtime, Mahomes broke the hearts of San Francisco fans by leading Kansas City down the field and scoring the game-winning touchdown.
Swift’s presence at NFL games led to a surge in the league’s popularity among its loyal fans, the “Swifties,” who tuned in since the megastar began dating Kelce last year.
While the Chiefs continued their winning streak this season, the 49ers struggled to maintain the same level of performance as last year. Even though San Francisco is not mathematically eliminated from NFL playoff contention, it seems likely that it will miss the postseason.
Unfortunately, that means there is no Super Bowl rematch and that Purdy has no chance to get revenge on Kansas City and make good on his earlier promise to disappoint Swift and her fans.
