It was his first appearance on the ice since his last start on December 8 against the Colorado Avalanche.

“In the game against Colorado, I knew something was wrong,” Allen told reporters. “(I) only needed a few days.”

Head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed Allen will travel with the team as it travels to games against the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets this week.

“Jake is available and will be joining the group,” Keefe said.

The Devils recalled 23-year-old goaltender Nico Daws, who joined the team at 11:30 a.m. practice. Although Keefe said Daws would accompany the team on their road trip, which Keefe called “a little extra insurance,” the organization ultimately decided to reassign him to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

Allen has started 10 games this season and has a record of 5-4-1 with a save percentage of .904.

“I detest not being on the roster,” Allen continued. “I was hoping to be back on Saturday but I just needed a few more days. Nice to be back.”

Allen began his NHL career in St. Louis and spent seven seasons with the Blues. He won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2019.
