If it seems like Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is hitting milestones and all-time bests on a weekly basis, that’s probably because he is.
And he has a chance to climb three more lists on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings.
If Crosby scores two points, he will tie Joe Sakic for the eighth-most points in NHL history (regular season and playoffs) with 1,829.
Crosby’s rise to the all-time NHL points list is pretty well documented at this point. With 1,626 points, he is already in the top 10 of the regular season and has a chance to soon surpass Sakic (1,641) in this category. With his 20th point this season, he aims to break Wayne Gretzky’s single-season record of 19 points per game in a row this season.
🥅 An all-time record is at risk due to (lack of) empty net points: Sidney Crosby tries to overtake Gretzky’s season with 1⃣9⃣ points per game.
Last year? 10 of his 94 PTS were EN
This year? Zero (27 PTS in 29 GP)This record can come down to this #LetsGoPens to attend more games this year. https://t.co/tYggZxntnc

But when you look at regular season and playoff points combined, Crosby is on pace to tie Sakic for eighth all-time if he can record two points on Tuesday. Next on this list for Crosby would be Mario Lemieux with 1,895 for seventh place.
With two points, Crosby will also overtake Steve Yzerman and move into seventh place on the NHL’s all-time multi-point games list
In Pittsburgh’s 9-2 win over Montreal on Thursday, Crosby recorded three assists, tying him with Yzerman for seventh all-time with 477 career multi-point games.
Another multi-point performance would put him in seventh place alone, and Mario Lemieux’s mark of 497, sixth all-time, also seems within Crosby’s reach.
With another even-strength goal, Crosby tied Teemu Selanne for 12th most even-strength goals in NHL history
As it stands, Crosby has scored 421 even-strength goals in his career and needs just one more to tie Selanne for 12th on the all-time list. Bobby Hull’s mark of 437 would be next in line for the Penguins captain.
Ironically, Crosby has gone nine games without a goal and 12 games without a goal at even strength. His final goal was the 600th of his NHL career and came on a five-on-three power play:
There have only been two extended stretches in his career without an equivalent goal: 18 consecutive games to start the 2015/16 season and 19 consecutive games from January 18, 2007 to March 1, 2007.
It’s safe to say it’s due.
