Chael Sonnen learned the hard way not to mess with Gilbert Burns.
After Sonnen hinted that Burns was retired on a recent episode of Good Guy/Bad Guy with Daniel Cormier, Burns retaliated by revealing his phone number on X in a post that was later deleted. However, Sonnen took the doxxing in stride and decided to host a question-and-answer session with fans after receiving a number of calls.
Maybe he’s not such a “villain” after all.
Sonnen admitted he was wrong when he claimed Burns had retired after “Durinho” lost his third straight fight to Sean Brady in the UFC Fight Night 242 headliner last September.
“I say Daniel, I said, ‘Hey, I love Gilbert’s idea. I know he’s still in the rankings, but he left the pool, Gilbert Burns withdrew,'” Sonnen said. “’He officially retired after his last fight’. And guys, to this moment I still think I’m right. No, I’m clearly not right.”
“Somewhere it’s programmed wrong in my head, but I can still stop and think back. I remember Gilbert saying that. So Gilbert goes on Twitter and plays the clip and says it’s so disrespectful. ‘Hey, Chael, I’ “I want to talk to you about this. Is your phone number still there?” and he posts my phone number.”
